Tonto Scalped The Lone Ranger And Went Back To His Tribe

 by Michael Feil

Tonto, the Lone Ranger’s sidekick, and the Lone Ranger were inseparable. The Lone Ranger taught Tonto allof the “Lone Ranger Ways” which was to do everything by yourself and to remain unattached to all people.

Tonto got tired of riding into town, saving people, then riding back out of town and not getting to talk to anyone, establish any relationships, or ask for help when he really needs it.

Tonto came to the Lone Ranger one day and said in his broken English Indian voice, “Tonto used to many people helping out. Tonto want more than Lone Ranger and Tonto. Lone Ranger and Tonto can’t do all alone. Too many people to help, only two not enough.”

Well the Lone Ranger was used to doing everything his way and he has been doing it this way for very long time and he has no intention of changing.

Tonto had it with the Lone Ranger and his “Lone Way” of thinking and Tonto just snapped! Tonto scalped the Lone Ranger and went back to his Tribe where he could really be shine by working with a group of people that look out for each other and take care of each other.

Do you ever feel like you are building your business all alone? You could be a network marketer or an internet marketer and just feel that everything you do is done by you with no support from anyone. There is no one to make you accountable, no one to help you out when you’re stuck, no one to pick up some of your load, no one to bounce new ideas off of, and no one to help you market.

This is what I call Lone Ranger marketing. It’s not fun and it leads to burn out. I know because I’ve been there. I’ve been in a few network marketing companies in the past and although I had access to my upline and could call them whenever I had a question I still felt all alone, and when I first started out doing internet marketing there was no one that I could go to. I just tried to figure it out by myself (no wonder I didn’t do very well in the beginning!).

So how do you make the switch from Lone Ranger marketing to Tonto’s preference…Tribe Marketing? Well, first off, please don’t go and scalp your upline!! Suppose you are in a company and you do feel like you’re out there all alone you may just want to FIGURATIVELY scalp your upline and your whole company for that matter. If you like the Tribe Mindset, having a group of like minded people that you can work closely with and will support you no matter what, then it may be time for you to look for a different company and different leadership.

So here’s a list of 5 things on what to look for when choosing a company that has the Tribe mentality…

1. You need a company that meets regularly to mastermind. This is important! My company meets on Skype once a week to help the new people, talk about what is currently going on in the company, and do a quick training piece.

2. The tribe needs to syndicate each other’s content. This means you and your tribe agree to support each other by getting each other’s blog pots out there on the social media sites. This can be done by commenting on the blog post, tweeting the post, linking it to Facebook, and getting it out to the social bookmarking sites like Digg and Stumbleupon just to name a few. My Tribe has started a new phenomenon called Tribe Tuesday and we have decided that every Tuesday we will come together and syndicate each other’s content for about an hour. It works very well and we are getting a lot of buzz about it. Search the hashtag #TribeTuesday to see all the buzz.

3. You need to work with people that are not just out for themselves. Be a Go-Giver. Go-Givers will do whatever they can to help you out. I don’t mind helping people out. You will almost always see my Skype status as “Online” and I do answer my phone and IM chats because I know if I help one of my tribe members they will help me out when I need it. This industry is changing and the Lone Ranger Marketing is really going away. You will see more and more people building tribes and helping each other out.

4. Free Training! Different people have different talents. Although I can do a lot of things by myself because I took the time to learn them I know some of my tribe members can do them better than me and just have more experience. I might be struggling in one area but my tribe member knows that area like the back of his hand and he will help me get the job done which will save me time and aggravation. In return one of my talents may be something that he is struggling with so I help him out by teaching him that area. Finding 5 or 6 different people that are experts in their own areas and bringing them together to help each other out is one powerful thing!

5. There may be more than just your network marketing company. If you all are meeting on a regular basis, syndicating each other’s content, and helping each other out chances are that you know each other pretty well now and have learned a lot about the industry. Now what you all can do is still build your network marketing business but also stop outside of that business and create a whole other business by developing a product that may help the same people you are trying to recruit for your business. It may be an information product that will help new people learn the proper ways to market online, or a product that people can use to drive more traffic to their blog. These products may look like a DVD set, a webinar series, an eBook, audio files, etc. The possibilities are endless.

These are just a few of the positive things that come with not being a Lone Ranger and having a Tribe to back you up. It’s no fun to be the Lone Ranger. Believe me, I did it for many years and it didn’t get me too far! Now that I am with a tribe I have done more in one year that I did in the past 6 years. It has truly been an amazing experience and the doors are just opening up.

I know tribes are a very new concept to the home based business industry so if you have any questions about what tribes are, how to form them, how to join them, what else do they do, how to set up a Tribe Tuesday, etc, just contact me and I will be more than happy to share my ideas. I can be reached at my email address mike@michaelfeil.com and on Skype at michaelfeil. I would love to talk to you!

Too long we’ve been told we should admire the lone wolf ahead of us leading the pack yet the pack or ‘tribe’ is why we have survived. Time to focus on where we can add value and gain the support! Thanks for the reminder and the tips, Michael

Very well said Mike. Being the lone ranger is NO FUN! But hooking up with a tribe of like minded people, seems to launch a person into a whole new level of creativity. Connecting with the energy of the tribe time is an awesome experience.

Very good points Mike. Last night on our skype call about 20 seeds were planted and mastermind in way that could not be possible as the lone Ranger…

Great article Michael…I appreciate your addressing the significance of being with a company that has a ‘tribe’ mindset. As opposed to those that have more of a ‘herd’ mentality, ‘driven’ by leaders that are ‘takers’, more than they are ‘givers’.
On a lighter note…your article is entertaining, as well as enlightening…fun to read!
    keep it coming my friend…

Tonto knew what he was doing(not that I’m advocating scalping or anything). Tonto got wrapped up in the ‘Glory’ attributed to not needing anyone to do anything, being able to call your achievements your own. Fortunately he remembered how much easier it is and how much more fun you can have with a tribe. This is a new concept to the Home Based Business Community. Thanks for putting it out there for all to see and take advantage of.

Cooperation almost always benefits everyone more than competition – especially since everything (and everyone) is ultimately (and sometimes intimately) connected (in one way or another). To be (or to “go it”) alone is often to be cut off and dis-connected. Independence is actually a myth – pretending to Make Yourself The Hero (and ignoring most of “All Your Relations”). “Tonto” means “fool” in Spanish. Foolishly following a Lone Ranger way of thinking may seem “heroic”, but it’s also bound to leave you feeling unnecessarily lonesome (with hair in someone else’s hand). Tonto called The Lone Ranger “Kemosabe”. Perhaps, like his English, Tonto’s Spanish was also “broken” – and what he meant to say was “Quien no sabe” (Who doesn’t know)….

Tribes are in many ways like extended families – rather than loose “communities” of “individuals” with only limited interest and concern regarding others. A chain is only as strong as the “weakest” link. The secret is not to get rid of links, but to increase the support each receives. Communists and street gangs are not as popular as The Three Musketeers – but all have borrowed from the Tribal concept of “all for one and one for all” as among the best ways for everyone to thrive individually and communally.

The key to (everyone) GETTING the most out of a Tribe is for each member to seek to GIVE more than they receive. Rather than an imbalanced give and take exchange that creates a deficit, the synergy of seeking continual collaborative contribution tends to ensure that everyone’s needs are met and that the Tribe as a whole thrives.

Don’t be a fool who doesn’t know. Take off the mask and take a chance – letting others see and interact with you by connecting with a community. There is a Tribe waiting for what only you can contribute. Posting a comment is an easy way to start.
