Get Noticed By using Gravatars!

by Michael Feil on December 29, 2009

Gravatars are great because when you leave a comment or some kind of Social Media trail it normally has a place for you to leave your picture behind as well. Anyone that is serious about Social Media needs to understand that there is no such thing as over exposure…unless you’re SPAMMING! But I’m talking about leaving real value that people can pick up and learn from!

So obviously if you’re leaving value behind you will certainly want to leave your identification attached to that value. So why not your picture too? This is called a Gravatar, which means Globally Recognized Avatar.

So what’s an Avatar? Well, an Avatar is a head shot or a company logo. It’s just a visual of who you are. So the Gravatar is your picture that is globally recognized on all social media sites.

I was going to make a video on how to install a Gravatar but www.gravatar.com says it best. Watch the video below…

Great post Mike!

That little piece of real estate
when blogging is super valuable.
I know I scan comments and when
I see the pic of someone I like
what they write I stop and read
their comment… then most likely
head to their site.

Thanks for the share!

Great Idea. I never thought of that. I’m sure you could use this in many social media instances.

Thanks for all the great posts, Mike

Yeah, nice post Mike, it certainly is a useful tool to use.

Despite the simplicity of it, putting a face to your name when interacting online can often make a huge difference to the impression you make on others. Most people consider it detrimental to remain faceless on the popular social networks, so it wouldn’t be a bad idea to consider the same approach when getting into discussions on blogs as well. What you’ve shown here just makes it a whole lot easier for everyone!

Thanks for sharing Mike, have a good one.

Cheers,

Justin.

Justin, Yes, it is great to put a name with a face with a name! The more you’re out there more you’ll get noticed!

You said it, Michael!

This is just one tiny, tiny ’secret’ to branding yourself. Adding a pic is only going to help give you add more credibility if you will to who you really are. And it allows others to get a feel for themselves whether or not they automatically resonate with you…just by looking at your picture.

With that said, it’s a really important idea to take action right away and add a pic to your profile. Plus, using gravatar is sooo simple…and hey!….it’s FREE! ;)

As is commonly said: “It’s nice to put a face to your name.”

Thanks again, Michael!

Hey Mike,
I wish I knew about this video when I did my gravatar. It is so much fun to see how simple and easy it is to do while remembering how weird it felt when I was doing it kind of blindly – I wasn’t sure if I was doing it right but was so happy when I got the final result. Thank you for sharing this video! I enjoyed it and had fun watching it.
Gratefully,
Venus :)
