Get Noticed By using Gravatars!

December 29th, 2009 by Michael Feil

Gravatars are great because when you leave a comment or some kind of Social Media trail it normally has a place for you to leave your picture behind as well. Anyone that is serious about Social Media needs to understand that there is no such thing as over exposure…unless you’re SPAMMING! But I’m talking about leaving real value that people can pick up and learn from!

So obviously if you’re leaving value behind you will certainly want to leave your identification attached to that value. So why not your picture too? This is called a Gravatar, which means Globally Recognized Avatar.

So what’s an Avatar? Well, an Avatar is a head shot or a company logo. It’s just a visual of who you are. So the Gravatar is your picture that is globally recognized on all social media sites.

I was going to make a video on how to install a Gravatar but www.gravatar.com says it best. Watch the video below…

Please enable Javascript and Flash to view this VideoPress video.

Why I Celebrate Christmas

December 24th, 2009 by Michael Feil

Many people celebrate Christmas for many reasons. Some say Christmas is about the gifts. Most of these people are probably pretty shallow and really have no value to give.

Some people say Christmas is about spreading love, happiness and joy. We don’t need a holiday to do that. We should be doing that everyday!

Some say Christmas is about spending time with the family, getting together with loved ones, and making memories. I would have to say, yes that is part of the reason. Christmas is great when you are with your loved ones, but for me Christmas is much more than that.

Here is the main reason why I and many other people around the world celebrate Christmas…

Matthew 1: 18-24

18This is how Jesus Christ was born. A young woman named Mary was engaged to Joseph from King David’s family. But before they were married, she learned that she was going to have a baby by God’s Holy Spirit. 19Joseph was a good man and did not want to embarrass Mary in front of everyone. So he decided to quietly call off the wedding. 20While Joseph was thinking about this, an angel from the Lord came to him in a dream. The angel said, “Joseph, the baby that Mary will have is from the Holy Spirit. Go ahead and marry her.

21Then after her baby is born, name him Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.” 22So the Lord’s promise came true, just as the prophet had said, 23″A virgin will have a baby boy, and he will be called Immanuel,” which means “God is with us.”

24After Joseph woke up, he and Mary were soon married, just as the Lord’s angel had told him to do. 25But they did not sleep together before her baby was born. Then Joseph named him Jesus.

Matthew 2: 1-12

1When Jesus was born in the village of Bethlehem in Judea, Herod was king. During this time some wise men from the east came to Jerusalem 2and said, “Where is the child born to be king of the Jews? We saw his star in the east and have come to worship him.” 3When King Herod heard about this, he was worried, and so was everyone else in Jerusalem. 4Herod brought together the chief priests and the teachers of the Law of Moses and asked them, “Where will the Messiah be born?”

5They told him, “He will be born in Bethlehem, just as the prophet wrote,

6′Bethlehem in the land of Judea,
you are very important
among the towns of Judea.
From your town
will come a leader,
who will be like a shepherd
for my people Israel.’ ”

7Herod secretly called in the wise men and asked them when they had first seen the star. 8He told them, “Go to Bethlehem and search carefully for the child. As soon as you find him, let me know. I want to go and worship him too.”

9The wise men listened to what the king said and then left. And the star they had seen in the east went on ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. 10They were thrilled and excited to see the star.

11When the men went into the house and saw the child with Mary, his mother, they knelt down and worshiped him. They took out their gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh [c] and gave them to him. 12Later they were warned in a dream not to return to Herod, and they went back home by another road.

So this year when you’re with your family, spreading the love, and opening your gifts just remember that God gave us a very special gift many year ago in a little town called Bethlehem.

I hope you have a wonderful Christmas!!

Making A Custom Tab For Your Facebook Fan Page

December 17th, 2009 by Michael Feil

Facebook Fan Pages can help grow your business tremendously…if you use them the right way. Many people don’t know how customizable fan pages can be. There is so much you can do with them…you just need to be creative.

Today I’m going to show you an application that you can use to set up a customizable “Welcome” tab and an “About Me” tab. These are just two of the possibilities that you can do with this application. You can make other tabs that are related to your niche, company, product, etc. The possibilities are endless with this application!

To get an idea of what I mean Click Here For My Facebook Welcome Tab.

This application is called Static FBML.

Most web pages are built with HTML code which stands for Hyper Text Markup Language. Facebook has its own version of HTML called FBML (FaceBook Markup Language). Most of the code is the same but there is some specific code changes when it comes to showing a YouTube video.

A normal YouTube embedded with HTML code would look like this….

<object width=”425″ height=”344″><param name=”movie” value=”http://www.youtube.com/v/BIX13I9uHi8&hl=en_US&fs=1&”></param><param name=”allowFullScreen” value=”true”></param><param name=”allowscriptaccess” value=”always”></param><embed src=”http://www.youtube.com/v/BIX13I9uHi8&hl=en_US&fs=1&” type=”application/x-shockwave-flash” allowscriptaccess=”always” allowfullscreen=”true” width=”425″ height=”344″></embed></object>

A video that a is going to go into a tab that is created with Static FBML will look like this…

<center><p align=”center”><fb:swf swfbgcolor=”000000″ imgstyle=”border-width:3px; border-color:white;”
swfsrc=’http://www.youtube.com/v/5JAIhNszaeE
imgsrc=’http://img.youtube.com/vi/5JAIhNszaeE/1.jpg’
width=’340′ height=’270′ /></p></center>

When building your Static FBML page and inserting a YouTube video you can use the above code but just take out the red text and put in your link to your video.

Most of the other code is standard HTML code. If you are not sure about how to build a page using html code you can use Windows Live Writer which is a free program that you can use to convert WYSIWYG to HTML.

If you’re interested in learning more about HTML and building web pages I use a great program that is very easy to use called XSite Pro and you can get more information about it at http://www.xisteprolearning.com.

Check out this video that will walk you through getting Static FBML up and running on your Fan Page…

If you are still clueless how to make a custom tab on your Fanpage after reading this post and viewing the video then you’re not the sharpest tool in the shed!

Awww, I’m just kiddin’! This is actually really technical stuff and some very advanced Facebook techniques so if you are really having problems with this I can custom make one for you.
